Documentary Spotlight: Day in the Life of a Bakery Owner

As a story-driven video production company, we specialize in client testimonials, company overviews, and careers page videos.

But we also have a soft spot for documentaries.

Where our previous documentaries focused on a retelling of events, we wanted to capture a story as it unfolded in real-time - following a character without knowing the outcome.

We found the perfect opportunity with Shelby of Miggy’s Bakes as she prepared to sell on State Street for the Madison Night Market.

Not only did we find an entertaining main character, but we also got to feature a quintessential Madison event as our setting.

As a documentary-style crew, we needed to be prepared for anything. We kept our setup simple, hooking Shelby up to a wireless lav mic to capture her audio and those around her.

We used our camera handheld to quickly frame up shots. Plus, we even had the chance to capture some incredible establishing shots of the market with our drone.

While we had a general idea of how Shelby’s night market experience would go, so much happened that we couldn’t have predicted.

When we sat down to edit the footage, we discovered our story: A Day in the Life of a 26-Year-Old Bakery Owner.
