Tips to Improve Your Computer Video for Calls & Recordings

In this blog we’ll discuss 3 tips to improve your computer video for calls & recordings. These tips will work with any program and device.

First off is framing. Since you are focused on the other people in the call, you might neglect how you appear in the frame. You want to be centered with just a little bit of room between the top of your head and the top of the frame. Also avoid having the camera angle too low or too high.

Next is lighting. The big mistake people make is filming with their back against a bright light source, like a window. This will shadow your face and make you appear as a silhouette. If the room does have a window, you can position yourself towards it for nice lighting. Just make sure it’s not direct sunlight. If there isn’t natural light or you want to improve your quality even more, you can purchase an LED light to place behind the computer. The LED light will brighten up your face and remove shadows caused by the room’s overhead lighting.

Lastly is audio. The first step is to choose a quiet location. Appliances, road noise, pets, and crowded areas can all make it more difficult for your voice to be heard clearly on the call. Second, you can wear headphones to reduce the risk of echo caused by your microphone capturing the sound of your speakers. Optionally, you can improve your audio quality even further by purchasing an external usb microphone. Don’t place this microphone too far away. The closer the mic is to you, the better the audio quality will be.
