Screw It, Let’s Do This. Our venture into podcasting

Last winter, I got the itch to do a podcast. Wanting to learn more about the technology and workflow, I pursued it as a testing ground for new content ideas.

However, I didn’t want to be the star (my mom would be my only listener). Instead, I reached out to two local entrepreneurs/friends - Therese of Tricky Foods and Shelby of Miggy’s Bakes.

Screw It, Let's Do This

With their combined following of over 30,000 people on Instagram, they were no strangers to the camera. They took charge of content while Spoken Frame Media handled the tech and production.

Both Therese and Shelby had quit their corporate jobs to start their own businesses. Plus, they both opened up physical storefronts just this year. Wanting to create a podcast about taking risks, “Screw It, Let’s Do This” was born.

As the show has grown, we’ve expanded into hosting several risk-taking guests, from brewers and bakers to cross-fitters and Paralympic gold medalists.

To easily host the show every week, we created a set in the Spoken Frame Media offices with a purple-painted wall and furniture to fit the brand.

Podcast Behind The Scenes

To separate ourselves from other podcasts, we want the video quality to be front and center. Each episode is set with superior lighting and audio and captured with three cameras, allowing us to produce both audio and video versions of the content.

For audio, we use Buzzsprout - a hosting platform that allows us to automatically post to other major podcast providers like Apple Podcast and Spotify.
For video, we upload to YouTube.

To promote the podcast, we create vertical clips of each episode to share across Instagram Reels, TikTok, and Youtube Shorts, adding subtitles for users who scroll without sound.

Not only has this venture proved to be a great networking opportunity, but our access to analytics has helped us test hypotheses, guide production decisions, and refine our content to suit each platform.

Plus, as video continues proving its place in any digital marketing strategy, it’s helped us stay at the forefront of trends for our clients.
